MOSCOW, RUSSIA / RankWire.AI / – Russia anticipates its 2026 grain harvest will reach approximately 140 million tonnes as farmers conclude the season’s final phase. Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev reported that farmers have already gathered over 126 million tonnes of grain. By October 2, they had threshed roughly 90% of the planted area. Authorities also project that the country will harvest about 35 million tonnes of oilseeds this year.

These latest numbers show an increase from early September, when Russia had harvested 113.5 million tonnes of grain. The collection of oilseeds has now reached about 15 million tonnes. Farmers in the organized sector have also gathered nearly 4.5 million tonnes of potatoes and a similar volume of vegetables. Officials stated that yields across most crop types are currently exceeding their 2025 levels as work continues across the main producing regions.
Russia’s Ministry of Economic Development has issued a slightly higher forecast for the 2026 grain output, estimating about 141.8 million tonnes. Meanwhile, Rosstat reported a 2025 harvest of 141.2 million tonnes based on its territorial data. During an April government meeting, Agriculture Minister Oksana Lut stated that the 2025 harvest totaled 144.6 million tonnes, making it the third-largest in Russia’s history. In 2024, Russia harvested nearly 130 million tonnes of grain.
Harvest activities reach final phase
Patrushev noted that the pace of harvesting aligns with the government’s expectations for key crops. Support measures for farmers remain in place during the autumn season. The authorities allocated around 10 billion rubles to subsidize transportation from major grain-producing areas. Additionally, grain export duty payments have been suspended until the end of 2026. Export duties on vegetable oil and meal are capped at August levels.
Winter planting has now passed the halfway point of the planned area, according to officials. Regional authorities have been advised to monitor planting progress closely, especially for winter grains. The Agriculture Ministry earlier mentioned farmers planned to sow over 19 million hectares with winter crops. Officials also emphasized the importance of maintaining supplies of machinery, seed, fertilizer, and other essentials for seasonal work.
Recent harvests maintain high levels of production
Russia’s recent grain harvests remain among the largest in its history. In 2023, the country produced about 143 million tonnes of grain. The 2022 harvest hit a record 157.676 million tonnes. The current forecast of 140 million tonnes is below those figures but still above the nearly 130 million tonnes collected in 2024. The final 2026 figure has not yet been announced, as harvesting continues in some regions.
These figures also highlight the scope of Russia’s broader crop output. Alongside grain, the government expects oilseed production to reach about 35 million tonnes in 2026. Farmers are actively harvesting vegetables and potatoes as regions complete seasonal work. Officials are also advancing winter planting for the upcoming cycle while farmers finish this year’s harvest. The government’s current projection remains at 140 million tonnes for the total grain harvest.
